Scott Millar creates unique pieces that blur the boundaries between traditional hand skills and contemporary design. Born and raised in Scotland, Scott now lives and works in Brighton where he founded his eponymous brand in 2015.

He graduated with a BDes in Jewellery & Metal Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design in Dundee, followed by an MA in Goldsmithing, Silversmithing and Jewellery Making from the Royal College of Art in London. Immersed in the beautiful and visually rich South Coast, Scott has developed an interest in colours found living by the sea, specifically the rich hues of dawn and dusk.

“Look deeper into nature, and then you will understand everything better” - Albert Einstein

Scott Millar’s source of inspiration is commanded by a fascination with the depth of colour found in what is above us. Living and working within a stone’s throw of Brighton’s unique seafront, Scott constantly has his head up, looking towards the sky and the horizon. The more he looks, the more striking colour he finds in the sunset and sunrise over the English Channel.

Scott brings these colours to life in his jewellery through handpicking each gemstone on merit of their depth of colour, unique natural inclusions and colour theory. Using colour combinations as his visual language, he offers a ‘mood’ through his compositions reflected through his various collections.

An advocate for traditional handmaking skills, Scott is an experienced goldsmith in his own right, with a wealth of experience that goes beyond art college training. Passionate about self-development, Scott spent a number of years working alongside classically trained goldsmiths, sadly considered a dying breed.

Each piece of jewellery is exclusively made by Scott, through personally selecting each and every gemstone, hand constructing each setting then shaping and forming the precious metals. All pieces are made entirely in house to achieve Scott’s exacting standards of craftsmanship.

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.” - Robert Louis Stevenson

Each piece of jewellery is part of a continuous process to improve our relationship with nature, respecting the delicate balance of our climate. Scott Millar is responsible for the start to end making of each piece, therefor has full control of all ethical implications of his business.

Believing in 100% transparency, Scott is happy to answer any questions about the materials and processes used in his work from the sourcing of gemstones to the recycling of every cut-off of metal. Describing his jewellery as “traceable from mine to wearer”, Scott opts to work with UK based suppliers with validated ethical practices.

As a registered Fairtrade goldsmith and Ambassador of Fairtrade Gold, Scott offers the option of fair-mined or recycled gold, as well as the option to reuse your existing precious metals and/or gemstones through bespoke and made to order jewellery.
